For those of us who remember how trendy the whole zodiac thing was in the 1970s, it’s fun to see it pop up now and again. Here’s an example, a stained and engraved zodiac pattern on concrete in a Chinese-style restaurant called Temptasian in Vernon, British Columbia.
The work was done by Sean Dalton in fall 2008 for CFC Floor Preparation & Coating Inc., a concrete preparation and coating company in Abbotsford, British Columbia. CFC owner Chris Dalton is Sean’s dad.
The younger Dalton engraved the design using equipment and a template bought from Engrave-A-Crete. The colorants were Floric Polytech acid stains.
We asked Chris why they did a zodiac. “I seem to remember going through some brochures for acid stains and my client saw the pic and got all excited about it,” he told us. “It’s an Asian restaurant so it made sense for them.”
