PORTLAND CEMENT ASSOCIATION Cement use still on the rise

Cement consumption this year is expected to increase 5 percent over 2004 levels, making 2005 the third straight year with record volume, according to the Portland Cement Association’s Summer Forecast Report. The report is also predicting a 3.3 percent increase in 2006. Recent growth in nonresidential construction, coupled with few signs of a slowdown in the residential sector, point to more demand next year. An increase in public works construction is also expected as state finances improve and the Transportation Equity Act program is initiated.
