The new Kuwait Gulf Oil Company Headquarters main office building is a unique architectural edifice in Kuwait, being one of the leading Green Buildings in the country to be awarded the LEED-Gold Certificate from USGBC. The LEED-Gold certificate characterizes the new KGOC main office building with 30% less energy consumption and 60% less water consumption in addition to a working environment that helps increase employee productivity by 16%. The KGOC’s new main office building is six (6) stories tall, with a total build area of approximately 100,000 m².
Kuwait’s extreme environment presents a severe challenge for all building materials, and reinforced concrete is no exception. Extreme heat combined with high humidity from the adjacent Persian Gulf subject structurally reinforced concrete to the perfect environment to initiate corrosion. Reaching sustainability goals for the project required extending the durability of the structure and also protecting it from corrosion.
