The American Concrete Institute (ACI) announces the formation of a new committee whose mission is to develop and report information on concrete made with brackish, saline, and brine water and sea aggregates. ACI Committee 243, Seawater Concrete, will host its inaugural meeting on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at the ACI Concrete Convention in Philadelphia, PA, USA.
Under the leadership of chair Antonio Nanni, Professor and Chair at University of Miami, ACI Past President, and active ACI committee member, the committee will work to develop code language focused specifically on seawater concrete construction.
“ACI’s decision to form a new technical committee that deals with concrete made with combinations of brackish, saline, and brine water and/or sea aggregates is another critical step to show our commitment to sustainability” said Nanni, Chair, ACI Committee 243. “Saving fresh water and natural aggregates is a global goal and the active presence of ACI in this space will facilitate the development of knowledge and documentation necessary to attain it.”
