The Concrete Polishing Council (CPC) a subsidiary of the American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC), St. Louis, MO, has developed two pre-construction checklists for floors to receive a polished finish. They are “Checklist for the Pre-Construction Conference” and “Checklist for the Polished Concrete Pre-Construction Conference.”
The first is a supplement to the NRMCA/ASCC “Checklist for the Concrete Pre-Construction Conference.” “Pre-construction meetings are of prime importance in planning concrete construction work when potential problems can be avoided before the project starts and when the financial impact is relatively low,” says Bruce Suprenant, PE, PhD., F.A.C.I., ASCC technical director. “They’re especially critical when the slabs are to receive a polished finish. The input of the polishing contractor is vital in achieving the desired polished concrete finish.” The second checklist is for a meeting to take place after placing the slab, and just prior to receiving the polished finish. “This is an opportunity to for the polishing contractor to point out any flaws or inconsistencies in the slab that might affect the end product,” says Suprenant, “including curing, floor flatness, compressive strength, hardness, etc.” It also covers site condition, means and methods.
About the CPC
The CPC serves as an educational and networking resource for contractors and others in the design and construction industry. The ASCC is a non-profit organization that dedicates itself to enhancing the capabilities of those who build with concrete. It then provides them a unified voice in the construction industry. Members include concrete contracting firms, manufacturers, suppliers and others interested in the concrete industry such as architects, specifiers and distributors. There are approximately 760 member companies in the United States and 13 foreign countries. For more information, visit www.ascconline.org or call the ASCC office at (866) 788-2722.
