Cemstone, the Upper Midwest’s leader in high-performance concrete, decorative and pervious concrete and engineering services, has been chosen as winner of the Category B 1 award by the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) Commitment to Environmental Excellence Awards competition.
The Category B competition, for which Cemstone’s Columbus, Minnesota, facility received the award, is for those producers with an annual production between 25,001 and 50,000 cubic yards annually at those facilities.
“Because of the Columbus plant’s proximity to Crossways Lake, it is important to be innovative in how we address environmental issues at the site,” said Alex Olin, Cemstone’s environmental and safety coordinator. “We continually strive to improve our environmental performance not only at the Columbus location, but at all of our locations."
Through the Commitment to Environmental Excellence Awards competition, the NRMCA’s Operations, Environment and Safety committee salutes companies that have not only met, but surpassed governmental compliance measures and demonstrated a commitment to environmental excellence through plant and staff investment. The competition was judged on 11 separate criteria that demonstrated the company’s commitment to the environment through innovative management.
The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association was established in 1930 and operates through a partnership agreement with state associations. Its mission is to responsibly represent and serve the entire ready mixed concrete industry through leadership, promotion and education.
Founded in 1927, Cemstone operates ready-mix concrete plants in Minnesota, western Wisconsin and northern Iowa. The company operates a fleet of blue Cemstone ready mix trucks and offers a complete line of concrete pumping capabilities, aggregates, engineering services, concrete block and masonry products used in the construction of concrete structures.
