Sakrete is a leading bagged concrete materials brand. Recently, the company crowned Mike McMurray and Kenyon Taylor of Concrete Mike LLC the winners of Concrete Combat Season 1. They were crowned after a grueling live showdown at World of Concrete 2022 in Las Vegas. Stay tuned for the finale taped live in Las Vegas which will air in a few weeks. You can also catch up on Season 1 on YouTube.
The season finale pitted McMurray and Taylor against Mike Hill and Dave Rose of Rose & Son Concrete in a head-to-head challenge in front of a live audience of both concrete professionals and fans. Season 1 judges Dirk Tharpe, Sakrete concrete expert and Mike Day of Day’s Concrete Floors were joined by special guest judge Dave Endres of Oldcastle APG to oversee the competition and make the tough decision about who would be dubbed Concrete Combat champions. Reality show host Brittany Goodwin also presided over the twists and turns of the competition
As the premiere annual international event dedicated to the concrete and masonry construction industries, World of Concrete was the perfect venue for the championship. Attracting close to 37,000 registered professionals, the consistent foot traffic in the expo halls, high engagement with the comprehensive educational offerings, and overall vibrance exuded from participants summed up a successful show.
“World of Concrete is the biggest concrete event of the year. Filming the live finale of the biggest concrete competition series at the tradeshow was a must,” said Dave Jackson. Jackson is the Senior Brand Manager for Sakrete. “Both of our finalists put up a great fight under some seriously tough conditions, and we’re proud to congratulate the Concrete Mike team on their win. Both Mike and Kenyon have truly cemented their names in history,” said Jackson.
The final challenge
In the final challenge, Sakrete tasked competitors with repairing a damaged precast concrete culvert. These culverts are commonly used in waterway infrastructure. The culvert featured several major problem areas that needed to be repaired before it could be placed into service. This is a very real-world scenario, made even more difficult by the live nature of the challenge.
The close-fought battle – which included its share of surprises – ended with the closest-ever judging decision. It came down to a few minor points of skill, knowledge and speed that put team Concrete Mike over the top.
