ITW Red Head has introduced the new Tapcon+ concrete screw anchor, an IBC-compliant product approved for use in cracked and uncracked concrete and seismic zones. The screw is quicker and easier to install than traditional wedge anchors and is larger in size than the original blue screw anchor for concrete developed by sister brand ITW Buildex in 1976. Tapcon+ is an excellent alternative to wedge anchors commonly used in the marketplace and delivers equal or better holding value.
Ideal for multiple applications including drywall, railings, racking and conveyor systems and steel column base plates, Tapcon+ outperforms wedge anchors in tension, shear and anchor spacing. It also is much easier to install than wedge anchors, reducing installation time by as much as half, which is one of the many significant benefits Tapcon+ delivers.
“The new Tapcon+ concrete screw anchor offers excellent performance while meeting or exceeding competitive screw and wedge anchoring products, " says J. Schneider, marketing director for ITW Commercial Construction, North America. "They install faster by as much as 50 percent, are removable for temporary fixing and provide tremendous cost-in-place savings on the job site."
Since passing the development stage, Tapcon+ has earned recognition with many third-party compliance and approvals, including ICC-ES Report No. 3699. Tapcon+ is approved for concrete in cracked, uncracked and seismic conditions, making Tapcon+ well-suited for use on any job.
Tapcon+ relies on patented Advanced Threadform Technology to more efficiently tap and engage the concrete, as well as Blue ClimaSeal for superior corrosion protection. The induction hardened tip bites into harder concrete, increasing pullout capacity. It is available in three anchor diameters, 1/4-inch, 3/8-inch and 1/2-inch, ranging in length from 2 1/4 inches to 6 inches.
Third party approvals include ICC-ES approval for Cracked and Uncracked Concrete and all Seismic zones, International Building Code (IBC) 2006, 2009, 2012 Compliance, City of Los Angeles (COLA) and Florida Building Code (FBC) FL17072.
