Degussa AG, Dusseldorf, is selling its Construction Chemicals unit to BASF Aktiengesellschaft, Ludwigshafen, billed as the world’s largest chemical company. The acquisition includes Degussa Admixtures Inc., a business unit of the Construction Chemicals division. Degussa Admixtures makes chemicals for the concrete industry. The transaction is subject to customary approvals, such as clearance from regulatory authorities, but it is expected to be closed by mid-2006. “Degussa’s construction chemicals unit has an excellent position in the industry and offers BASF an attractive means of forward integration in its existing value chain in construction chemicals,” said BASF board member Dr. Andreas Kreimeyer in a news release. “The acquisition allows us to tap into the growth potential of the construction chemicals market on a sustainable basis and will further expand our position in this high-yield industry.” More information can be found at www.degussa.com and www.basf.com.
