XL Specialized Trailers, a market-leading manufacturer of custom-engineered heavy haul trailers, has launched a new Flat Deck Extendable (FDE) trailer. XL is the proven leader in commercial extendable trailers, with a full line of heavy haul trailers equipped with Extend-A-Trac technology. The XL 80 FDE is the newest addition to that line, using the patented Extend-A-Trac to extend and retract the deck without hooking and unhooking air and electrical lines.
The XL 80 FDE is rated at 80,000 pounds overall and 60,000 pounds concentrated in 10 feet when closed. With an overall width of 102 inches and overall length of 53 feet, the XL 80 FDE features the longest open length on the market at 91 feet when fully extended. Ideal for long commercial loads, the trailer features air operated lock pins with extension stops every 60 inches. Four 6-inch greaseable rollers assist the Extend-A-Trac in moving smoothly.
With an ability to haul a variety of loads, the sliding tandem axles adjust using a simple lock pin, which works best with each load’s specific weight distribution. The XL 80 FDE is available with three axle-spread options: 49-inch (with spring suspension only), 54-inch or 60-inch. The 43-foot long rear deck features a 58-inch loaded deck height. This trailer’s 10-foot long front deck features a 24-inch king pin setting with 82-inch swing clearance, two-speed landing gear, a 49-inch fifth wheel height and four stake pockets across the front channel for an optional DOT-rated headboard.
Built with T-1 flange and 80K web, the XL 80 FDE is built to last. The 4-inch junior I-beams on 12-inch centers and 6-inch structural side beams combine to construct a robust trailer. 5/16-inch by 2-inch rub rail with double pipe spools, stake pockets across the side rails of the trailer, along with the steel winch track on the driver’s side offer flexible tie down locations throughout the trailer, and flush apitong decking holds up for years of heavy use.
