The way to homeowners’ hearts is through their kids. So why not market decorative concrete to second graders?
Larry Mohr, director of operations at TruCrete Surfacing Systems, a manufacturer of products for decorative concrete and epoxy flooring, contacted Concrete Decor about a Junior Achievement event at a local elementary school near the company’s Cambridge, Md., headquarters.
“At a local public school in our town, our office manager, Julie, taught a nonprofit program that brings real world business related activities to students a through hands-on curriculum.
“It was based on our company manufacturing decorative concrete products and their applications. We gave away swag and got some pretty good photos.
“It was one day a week for five or six weeks, I think. She taught about how our decorative concrete products start and how they get used and then how that starts money generation. She built a prop of ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos. It was really cool and the kids looked forward to it and I believe really enjoyed it. I even saw one of the kids about a month later wearing one of our shirts.”
TruCrete office executive Julie Mohr taught the class. “We worked a lot on developing businesses, types of businesses, and how local business helps our community,” she says.
