The Kickstarter capital-raising website is being used succesfully by forward-thinking musicians, filmmakers and artists and entrepreneurs of every stripe. Let’s see if it can help a newbie decorative concrete artisan raise $6,500 by August 4 for a new casting studio.
Brandon Boetto, of Tempe, Ariz., is the guy who made the plunge. He’s giving away crafted concrete premiums for every pledge (assuming he raises the overall amount). As of July 19, he has $2,258.
Here’s more, taken from the site:
“SlabHaus is an artistic venture I, Brandon Boetto, started two years ago that specializes in high-end, custom concrete products. Previously, I was employed as a graphic designer and while i love working with computers, it was too clean of a life. It lacked the dirt, grime, blood and sweat i feel is essential in a fulfilling a sense of personal pride. With the help of a close friend, Brandon Gore, i discovered the world of concrete. Through him and many others, i have learned and studied this new art and it has become my passion in life. With a relentless drive for perfection our pieces are truly one of a kind. I have been working in my garage for the past year and have finally been able to acquire a space and make it my own (with your help of course)! …
“Our project is creating a high-end line of concrete furniture. Our line will consist of 1 chair, 1 coffee table, and 1 dining table that will be sold through our website. These custom pieces are 100 percent handmade by SlabHaus in Tempe, AZ and can be shipped anywhere in the continental US. We have all the designs done. We are just lacking a bit of funding to get the last few pieces of equipment needed to finish casting these pieces. With your help we can bring our interior concrete project to the public.”
