CK Concrete Design, St. Louis, Mo.
Project: Saale Residence, Winfield, Mo.
In the artisan’s words: The Saale Residence is a new construction home located in a country setting of Winfield, Missouri. All the rooms of the home reflect a consideration for the environment and use of green principles in the design and selection of products.
The kitchen includes custom concrete countertops in an acid wash finish to match the concrete stairwell water feature flowing into a small pond with tropical fish.
The kitchen floors are recycled hemlock from barns in upstate New York. In addition, the kitchen design includes porcelain tiles.
The lower level bar room’s main feature is the unique curved shape concrete bar with integral concrete tsunami sink in platinum color. An old piece of bowling alley was used to increase the bar’s size and also as a cutting board for lemons/limes. The floor tile was cut into smaller pieces and used as the base of the bar. Metallic blue paint was used on the walls.
The master bathroom represents the natural environment surrounding the home. This room carried over the use of concrete in the design and its main feature is the custom concrete vanity with 9-inch eased edge in a straw color with acid wash. The bath also contains a concrete top cap and toe kick along the built in shelves and a concrete wall panel.
The bath has a shower with numerous faucet heads to give the feeling of bathing in the rain while providing the benefits of hydrotherapy. The floor tile, which is made out of recycled glass, is repeated on the ceiling. The tile used around the other areas of the bathroom and in the shower area is porcelain with metal baked on top to give it a unique look and depth.
