Shopping was Fruitful at Decorative Concrete LIVE! Sponsored by Concrete Decor

Some 5,000 visitors shopped this year’s Decorative Concrete LIVE! exhibit to check out the latest and greatest ways to use concrete to beautify horizontal and vertical surfaces for a variety of retail facilities. Presented by Concrete Decor magazine and the Concrete Decor RoadShow, the nearly 4,300-square-foot retail space constructed primarily with insulated concrete forms surfaced with a fastening system was divided up into four distinct areas that enveloped a stamped and stained central courtyard.

The Concrete Decor Store showed visitors designs that could be drawn and etched freehand on a polishable overlay on the floor. On the exterior walls, stencils, stains and stucco were combined for a colorful storefront featuring faux designs of flagstone and brick.

Across the way — through a breezeway that highlighted waterproofing, a ceiling system and concrete that sparkled — multicolored epoxy terrazzo adorned with stone and glass dominated much of the floor in the Apple-like Store. The adjacent floor was left exposed so onlookers could glimpse the workings of a radiant system. As a lasting touch to the walls, pool forms were used to make window sills.

The Fast Food Restaurant next door featured a concrete protection process that included a black stain and a specially formulated urethane to make the dining experience a little more enjoyable. The restaurant’s exterior was finished with a special panel that lets installers more easily replicate brick-and-mortar veneers. On the restaurant’s inside and all around the mall, insulating concrete forms demonstrated why ICFs are one of the best building solutions today.

Bustling Biker Bar

One of the busiest areas at the Mall of Concrete was the Biker Bar where finishes both inside and outside repeatedly drew large crowds. One wall was finished to look like aged wooden planks while another emulated brick and stucco. The polished floor featured stained logos as well as applications of densifiers, dyes, surface retarders and sealers.

But that wasn’t all for the busy Biker Bar. One artisan crafted a memorial for the recent Las Vegas shooting tragedy, while another built a countertop complete with motorcycle exhaust pipes. Along the perimeter, a sidewalk with exposed aggregate was stained and sealed to make it more inviting.

The four shops were assembled around a metallic highlighted concrete sculpture that was crafted during the show and displayed at its end. Also as a courtyard draw, a prefab fireplace in six easily assembled pieces was carted in and put together in less than an hour.

Decorative Concrete LIVE! turns its attention this year to concrete’s impact Decorative Concrete Live Logo on retail space old and new with aesthetically pleasing and sustainable vertical and horizontal applications during World of Concrete 2018 in Las Vegas Jan. 22-26.

Live product demonstrations during construction of 4 full scale retail spaces will show World of Concrete attendees the opportunities decorative concrete offers to a wide range of construction applications, indoors and out, horizontal and vertical.

Complete with city sidewalks, a courtyard and concrete sculpture, the display measures more than 85 feet long by 55 feet deep. Just look for the Decorative Concrete LIVE! banner, Fox Blocks distinguishing white Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) construction and the big Putzmeister pump truck… and a crowd of industry pros!
