The American Concrete Institute (ACI) announced the winners of its 2016 Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Bowling Ball Competition. The competition took place at The Concrete Convention and Exposition in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in April 2016. The first, second and third place teams received cash awards of $750, $500 and $250, respectively.
During this exciting competition, students were challenged to design and construct a fiber-reinforced concrete bowling ball that achieves optimal performance for specified tests and tasks as well as document and present the team’s work to an audience of industry professionals
The objective of this competition is to demonstrate the effect of fibers in reinforcing concrete, to gain experience in forming and fabricating a concrete fiber-reinforced element, and to encourage creativity in engineering design and analysis.
