Here, the Concrete Decor staff shares its top 10 favorite out-of-the-ordinary concrete creations that were featured or almost featured in the past 99 issues. The thin-shell pavilion and fabric-formed planter tied for first place, while the faux bois sconce and slippers tied for second.
How could we narrow down the numerous influential people in the industry to just 10? It wasn’t easy, that’s for sure. Our list is by no means all-inclusive, but here are brief profiles of 10 people we think continue to influence the decorative concrete industry in a positive way. Who should we have included? Of all the lists we compiled for this special issue, this one was probably the hardest. It wasn’t because there were so few good jobs to choose from — quite the opposite.
From day one, we put a lot of thought into the covers for each issue of Concrete Decor magazine. Because it isn’t available on newsstands, we don’t have to try to appeal to the average grocery shopper standing in line, but we definitely want our cover images to be attention-grabbing.
University of Florida earned “America’s Cup of Civil Engineering” in June 2015 at the 28th annual American Society of Civil Engineers’ (ASCE) National Concrete Canoe Competition (NCCC). After three days of competition against 21 other teams, the University of Florida team and its canoe, ForeverGlades, came out on top.
Ellie Ellis of Elite Artistry LLC in Happy Valley, Oregon, and Eva Gallant of Y-Knot Creations LLC in Hurst, Texas, share a bond stronger than the one-ton concrete art piece they produced together in Indianapolis at the Concrete Decor Show.
The American Concrete Institute recognized the winners of its inaugural Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards during the ACI Awards Gala at the Concrete Convention & Exposition, Nov. 9, 2015, in Denver, Colorado.
The American Concrete Institute (ACI) announced the winners of its 2016 Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Bowling Ball Competition. The competition took place at The Concrete Convention and Exposition in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in April 2016. The first, second and third place teams received cash awards of $750, $500 and $250, respectively.
Dan Sieben, one of the founders of Bomanite, along with his Bomanite cohort, John “Jack” Dryden, are among the 2016 honorees. Joe Garceau of Butterfield Colors and George Lacker of GLC3 Concrete and Couture Concrete Systems round out this year’s selection.
