Bob Harris has released his fourth guide, entitled “Bob Harris’ Guide to Polished Concrete.”
The project was a powder-room vanity top. It was a follow-up to a feature fireplace we did a few months earlier for the same clients. As we had won their confidence with the fireplace project and they gave me free reign on the design.
If you haven’t started, now is a good time to set the wheels in motion. It’s only a hunch, but I believe we are all in for a healthier year ahead businesswise.
The Saale Residence is a new construction home located in a country setting of Winfield, Missouri. All the rooms of the home reflect a consideration for the environment and use of green principles in the design and selection of products.
Right at the start, we decided that the focal point of the kitchen would be the island. At that time we were unsure about what material we would use for the island top, so we went on a quest. We spent several days visiting virtually all of the natural stone distributors in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.
With a specific look in mind, the client approached us to create a singular look out of concrete for his kitchen island and tops, powder room sink, master bath vanities, floor and shower base, as well as vanities in the second bath, laundry and lower level wine bar.

The president of the American Concrete Institute, Richard D. Stehly, passed away Sept. 28. A member of ACI since 1980, Stehly was elected president of the Institute in March 2010. During his short time as president, he championed several ACI initiatives in sustainable development regarding the use of concrete.
The oldest methods of adding glitter to concrete are shiny aggregates – mica, glass, bits of mirror and so forth. More recent additives include silica carbide, spar, and "pixie dust" made of small glass beads.
