The tragedy created a bond between the boys’ mothers, Milena Sellers-Phillips and Maria Keever. When Sellers-Phillips participated in the search for a murdered girl in 2010, the experience renewed her desire for a public memorial to Jonathan and Charlie.
In two weeks’ time, Julio A. Hallack and his crew of four transformed what he calls a "mail lobby" – a ho-hum, run-of-the-mill 1,500-square-foot space – into a warm and inviting receiving area that everyone who sees it can’t help but admire.
When a landscape architecture firm drafted a plan to create playground trails and basketball courts for a Park California, it turned to one of the largest decorative concrete companies in the country, T.B. Penick & Sons Inc. of San Diego, to bring a wide range of cutting-edge decorative concrete systems to the project.
When this concrete was installed in 1927, the decision makers of this historic hotel wanted the assurance that the building would have the natural look so commonly seen in the High Sierras — and not the look of industrial concrete. And its still delighting guests to this day.
In 2005, Mesolini Glass Studio was commissioned by the Rotary Club of Bainbridge Island to create a concrete-and-glass mosaic map of the island to be placed at the new Rotary Gateway Park.
